-Testimony of Centurion Haxim
Classification: Elemental (Artificial)
Major Element: Fire (see below)
Minor Elements: None
Habitat: Any (especially common near the Tempest Peaks)
A creature of living fury, the Rage Elemental is not a true elemental but the product of a broken mind. When a mage focuses on an emotion, they tap into their elemental nature and summon forth the corresponding element. For those improperly trained or that push themselves too hard, however, the translation from emotion to element may not always be a smooth transition. If pushed hard enough the wielder's mind may "snap", often leaving them comatose, as a portion of their mind is shunted into the physical world.
This mental shard becomes a sort of pseudo-elemental , a shade built of a singular, intense emotion. While the creature's form may mimic that of a true elemental of the correlated element it is noticeably different, often with unusual, dark coloration (often times bearing a twisted replication of their creator's face). These false elements retain few of the properties of their related elements but should nevertheless be considered extremely dangerous. They are completely incapable of any emotion beyond the one which originally formed them, making them almost completely unapproachable, often utterly insane. Rage elementals are particularly dangerous because of their inevitable destructive state.
Luckily, rage elementals and other artificial constructs are quite unstable and will dissolve back into the ether in time. However this same trait makes them all the more dangerous as they seem to be capable of being reabsorbed by other minds. Militia who have dealt with rage elementals have often reported a feeling of intense sometimes uncontrollable fury, often lasting well beyond the encounter. It is not uncommon for soldiers who have recently slain a rage elemental to then quickly turn on each other. Particularly long battles with the creatures have even seen combatants spontaneously igniting.
Unfortunately, due to the recent militant ambitions of the University, 'Ragers' are becoming more and more common as more students try to push their spellcraft beyond their capabilities. While the University denies the link between the artificial elementals and its tutelage, the high number of reported cases in the Tempest Peaks cannot be ignored.
