Molten Revenant

. . . stone abominations that wandered aimlessly through the cursed land. They seemed a chilling mockery of creatures that once lived there, but it wasn't until we managed to get close to one resembling a great stone bear that we discovered the true terror of the revenants. As soon as we neared it attacked, magma flowing from its empty eyes like fiery blood. Soon it was dripping from the jaw, seeping from joints and cracks as it hounded us.

-Explorer Elris Deepvein, Horrors of the Witch's Scar

Classification: Dual Elemental
Major Element: Earth/Fire
Minor Elements: None
Habitat: Eastern Ordis, near the Witch's Scar

Though some may pass for simple stone elementals at first glance, like so many creatures that inhabit the ominous Witch's Scar, the molten revenant is more dangerous than it first appears. Beneath its rocky exterior lies a core boiling with geothermal fury. Those that would be foolish enough to approach a revenant risk triggering a violent response.

When left to their own solitude, a molten revenant often resembles a basic Earth elemental. The revenant's body is composed of a seemingly random collection of stones taking the vague form of a tetrapodal creature. Sightings have been made of revenants resembling everything from bears, to wolves, to birds, and even humans.

When agitated, however, the elemental's true nature brims forth. The molten core of the revenant quickly heats up until the liquid stone begins to flow from cracks and "orifices". The elemental will attempt to obliterate whatever caused the disturbance, usually by smashing it to dust or burning it to cinders.

Curiously, as a molten revenant ages, the form it mimics slowly becomes more precise and detailed, to the point that they may eventually look to be crude, living statues. It is believed that the intense heat within the creature makes the stone constituting its form more pliable and will, over time, mold it into a more perfect replica. This process seems to be sped up by the revenant's rage events. These events are likewise all the more terrifying as the magma streams from the eyes, ears, and mouth of a creature that may otherwise seem familiar.

There is a great deal of speculation as to the origins of the molten revenants and their relation to the Witch's Scar. Some scholars believe they are displaced Earth elementals, lost and furious about the destruction of their homes. Noting the revenants' mimicry, however, others have said that the aggressive elementals are actually what remains of the victims, both man and beast, of that catastrophe some 200 years past. Refusing to leave their homeland, the fiery souls were bound to the stones that once composed it, still burning with an endless hatred for trespassers.
